Frequently asked questions

Can you reach the islands from Athens?

Yes. The ferries leave from the port of Piraeus, 20 minutes by metro from the centre. Aegina, Hydra and Poros work as day trips; Mykonos, Santorini or Crete take several hours or an overnight crossing.

How much money do you need per day in Athens?

Excluding the flight and accommodation, plan on €40-60 a day. Street food is cheap, and the biggest expense is the Acropolis, which costs about €30.

What documents do I need?

Greece is in the Schengen area. Albanian citizens with a biometric passport enter without a visa, for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after your return date. Biometric data is recorded at the border (the EES system), and the ETIAS online authorisation is expected to become mandatory: check before you leave whether it has come into force.
