What it costs

A half-litre of beer costs €5-6, a dish in a beer hall €14-20, and a single ticket in the city about €4.

When to go

May to September for the beer gardens. Oktoberfest runs from mid-September to early October.

Tips

Frequently asked questions

When is Oktoberfest held?

It starts in mid-September and lasts about 16 days, until the first Sunday in October. Entry to the tents is free, but at weekends they fill up from the morning.

How much money do you need per day in Munich?

Excluding the flight and accommodation, plan on €50-80 a day. Munich is Germany's most expensive city: accommodation is the main expense, while food in the beer halls stays reasonable.

What documents do I need?

Germany is in the Schengen area. Albanian citizens with a biometric passport enter without a visa, for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after your return date. Biometric data is recorded at the border (the EES system), and the ETIAS online authorisation is expected to become mandatory: check before you leave whether it has come into force.
