What to see in Milan
- Duomo di MilanoThe Gothic cathedral in the heart of the city. Go up to the rooftop terrace for the view over the rooftops and, on clear days, all the way to the Alps.
- Galleria Vittorio Emanuele IIThe glass-roofed arcade next to the Duomo, full of historic cafés and shops.
- Castello SforzescoThe castle of the Sforza family, with museums inside and Sempione park behind it.
- NavigliThe canal district, the best place for an evening aperitivo.
- Pinacoteca di BreraThe city's main art gallery, in the bohemian Brera district, full of little streets lined with cafés.
- San SiroThe stadium of AC Milan and Inter. Outside match days you can visit it on a tour that includes the museum.
A 3-day itinerary
- The Duomo with a climb to the rooftop terrace, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and the Teatro alla Scala. In the afternoon, Castello Sforzesco and Sempione park, then an aperitivo in Brera in the evening.
- The “Last Supper” in the morning (booking required), then the Brera district and the Pinacoteca. In the afternoon, the shops of Corso Buenos Aires or the Quadrilatero della Moda, then the evening on the Navigli.
- A day out of the city, at Lake Como or in Bergamo. Otherwise, San Siro and the modern Porta Nuova district with the Bosco Verticale.
Where to stay
- Duomo and BreraAt the centre of everything, but with the highest prices. Ideal for a short stay.
- NavigliThe district of canals and nightlife, linked to the centre by metro.
- Stazione CentraleThe most practical and cheapest area: the buses and trains to both airports leave from here.
What to eat
- Risotto alla milaneseYellow risotto with saffron, the city's signature dish.
- Cotoletta alla milaneseA breaded veal cutlet, fried in butter.
- PanzerottiFried dough filled with tomato and mozzarella, a quick bite near the Duomo.
- AperitivoThe evening ritual: a spritz or a negroni with nibbles, before dinner.

Frequently asked questions
Malpensa or Bergamo: which airport is better?
Malpensa has a direct train to the centre. Flights to Bergamo are usually cheaper, but allow about an hour by bus to Milano Centrale. Either way the journey costs about €10-13.
How much money do you need per day in Milan?
Excluding the flight and accommodation, plan on €50-80 a day for food, transport and one museum ticket. Milan is among the most expensive cities in Italy, especially for hotels.
What documents do I need?
Italy is in the Schengen area. Albanian citizens with a biometric passport enter without a visa, for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after your return date. Biometric data is recorded at the border (the EES system), and the ETIAS online authorisation is expected to become mandatory: check before you leave whether it has come into force.
When are tickets cheapest?
Usually from November to March, outside holidays and long weekends, and for midweek departures. The prices on this page are checked every 3 hours, and the best deals are posted on our Telegram channel.
